Belize, the sleepy little English speaking country in Central America and my former home for eight years has been wracked in turmoil in recent weeks. Major tax hikes have everyone on edge and the situation remains tense. Over the past several days vandalism has shut down the telephone and electrical service causing many tourists to flee the country. Riots in Belize City last week left one dead and close to a hundred arrested.
There has been a call for the resignation of Said Musa, the Prime Minister but he vows to remain at the helm of a country at the point of coming unglued. He blames the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) for the recent violence and vandalism and says the countries unbearable debt is a huge contributing factor. The root of the crisis appears to be the nearly $1 billion in debt and the ongoing and persistent rumours of government corruption.

Anyhow..., government corruption is NOT unique to tiny tropical countries like Belize. A quick scan of Canadian news headlines will soon confirm that!
Check back regularly, no telling what little nugget of gnarled knowledge or whimsical wisdom you're going to unearth here but it could be a 'Prime Minister in exile nugget' - your guess as to whether that will be a Canadian or a Belizean Prime Minister.
Hasta La L8r Señor Prime Minister Musa or Martin or Both
